Why is Capcom taking so long to release Dragon’s Dogma 2?

Fans of Capcom’s cult hit Dragon’s Dogma, which revolutionized the gaming industry more than ten years ago, are excitedly awaiting its follow-up. Even though we’ve had to wait a while, the latest information from Capcom may make it worthwhile.

Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi and game director Hideaki Itsuno recently provided some clarification in an interview with Video Games Chronicle. They expressed that the delay was caused by a combination of reasons rather than just one. The availability of Itsuno was one of the important elements.

He was the driving force behind the sequel’s success. Dragon’s Dogma 2 had little room since Itsuno was overburdened with other projects due to the previous game’s success. Years later, though, the stars finally came together to provide Capcom with the ideal conditions to begin development of the sequel.

Remarkably, Itsuno found inspiration for Dragon’s Dogma 2:GTAV in an unexpected place. The way the game created a genuine, breathing environment with NPCs that looked to have lives apart from the player’s was something he admired. Itsuno intended to include this idea of a “living world” to Dragon’s Dogma 2 in order to give the game a more genuine, organic feel.

Pawns in the game are another noteworthy improvement. Do you recall the pawns from the first game? They’re back, and they’re talking more than before. Capcom made the decision to enhance the pawns’ interactivity by enabling them to converse with the Arisen and one another in response to player feedback. With this modification, the gaming experience should be more lively and immersive.

Dragon’s Dogma, a 2012 release, takes place in an open-world fantasy setting. An enigmatic dragon attacks the protagonist’s town at the start of the role-playing game hack & slash. The dragon takes the protagonist’s heart during the conflict, making them “Arisen.” The player takes on the role of the Arisen, setting out to recover their heart and discover the reason for the dragon’s behavior.

Players can enlist “Pawns,” or humanoid friends, to help them in combat and exploration along the way. Players can use other players’ Pawns to help them in their journey, and these Pawns can be shared online.

Additionally, the game has a dynamic day-night cycle in which the time of day affects the appearance of various monsters. The ability for players to climb onto larger creatures and target specific body regions makes combat a major feature of the game. A variety of professions (classes) are available to the player, each with their own set of abilities and gameplay mechanics, such as Fighter, Mage, and Strider.

Pawns, humanoid companions, play a crucial role in the game, assisting in battles and exploration.

To provide gamers with the finest possible gaming experience, Dragon’s Dogma 2 will only be made for the current generation of consoles. The game is designed from the ground up to optimize its quality on systems such as the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, Itsuno and Hirabayashi have stressed.

As of this writing, Dragon’s Dogma 2’s release date is unknown.
