Since the release of Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian Studios has responded quickly to reported bugs and malfunctions with a number of rapid updates. However, the most recent hotfix required a rollback because it created more issues than it fixed. As a result, the developer modified the update process, moving more slowly to ensure that the improvements were thoroughly tested before being released. The largest patch for BG3 to date is the end result. In fact, it is so large that it has exceeded the community update text limit on the Steam Page.

SPOILER WARNING: Several of the bugs that have been fixed contain spoilers. You may wish to avoid reading about Patch #1 if you haven’t completed Baldur’s Gate 3’s epic adventure.

The patch’s announcement was released on the social media pages of Larian Studios and Dungeons & Dragons in addition to the Steam Community Page for Baldur’s Gate 3.

The full list and contents of this first significant patch for Baldur’s Gate 3 are made available at the official website due to the text restriction on the Steam page.

The short-stature races in Baldur’s Gate 3 (such as Halflings and Gnomes) experienced awkward kiss animations with their taller romantic partners prior to Patch #1.The update is officially known as Patch #1, according to the Larian Studios staff. It fixes more than 1000 major and minor bugs, graphic flaws, game balance issues, and other issues.Players that created custom characters that are members of the shorter D&D races (like Gnomes and Halflings) discovered that they kissed their significant others as if they were the same height, giving rise to awkward but hilarious memes. But that’s no longer the case, as partners in relationships from races with short stature will now kneel respectfully.

So what can you expect from this update? Well, we’ve eliminated issues like NPCs who sometimes spot you when they really shouldn’t be able to, floating items like mugs and newspapers that should abide the laws of gravity, and the conclusion to Shadowheart’s romance scene not triggering for some players, among others. With expansive systems come many unknowns, so our support team continues to work with you to relay any issues to us. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with further reports.

Patch 1 also tackles a few visual bugs, and sprinkles on more post-launch polish. We’re bringing back Short King Summer with better kissing contact for short races!

  • The Emperor will no longer leave you stranded in the Morphic Pool, which could lead to the inability to progress.
  • Another game-stopping issue: Using the boat to go to the Morphic Pool and then sending that character to camp to designate another character to make the journey will no longer block you from progressing.
  • Helm of Arcane Acuity is capped to 7 stacks. Previously, the multiple stacking will crash the game.
  • Saving the game in the middle of a Reaction will no longer mess up the UI and block progress in combat.
  • Attacking an NPC during a dialogue after being Downed caused a Game Over screen to appear. Instead, doing this will now simply get you arrested.
  • Another bug with a Game Over screen from helping a Downed party member is also resolved.
  • Player 1 eavesdropping in on a conversation, but exiting before the dialogue was over caused a serious bug that prevented the player from interacting with anything. This has been fixed.
Marcus would oddly resurrect with the second hit from a dual-wield character. This update fixes that so that Marcus stays down.
  • Infinite falling loop glitches have been resolved.

When can users expect to see the next significant patch for Baldur’s Gate 3 now that the first major update is available? Larian Studios claims that it won’t be long, although they are currently keeping the details under wraps. As the date for Patch #2’s release draws near, more information will be made available.

Baldur’s Gate 3’s first significant patch fixed more than a thousand problems and issues. Additionally, Larian Studios affirms that Patch #2 will be released shortly. For both Larian Studios and Wizards of the Coast, Baldur’s Gate 3 has been an unquestionable success. Since its August 3rd launch, players have spent more than 200 million hours adventuring in the Forgotten Realms in BG3. In addition, the parent company’s Hasbrostock rose as a result of the critical and financial success of licensing the Dungeons & Dragons IP, lifting the S&P 500. The unfavorable reputation that resulted from problems like the Open Gaming License (OGL) debate and higher prices on D&D items earlier in the year was undoubtedly mitigated by Baldur’s Gate 3.

However, may Larian Studios’ success in creating a video game with the D&D Fifth Edition rules and graphics have a detrimental effect on the proposed VTT (Virtual Tabletop)? Characters can be seen moving in Baldur’s Gate 3, which already has outstanding VFX and changeable character appearances. Despite being created using Unreal Engine 5, the sneak peek for the One D&D VTT that displayed static miniatures seemed rudimentary in comparison.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently available for Windows PCs via GOG and Steam. On September 6, 2023, the Sony Playstation 5 port is expected to go on sale. The Microsoft Xbox Series X/S will shortly have a later release, which will be announced soon.
