- Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass Core, replacing Xbox Live Gold, launches on September 14th with 36 curated titles.
- Existing Xbox Live Gold members will automatically transition to Xbox Game Pass Core at no additional cost.
- The subscription costs remains unchanged at $9.99 per month or $59.99 per year.
Microsoft is scheduled to launch Xbox Game Pass Core, the replacement for Xbox Live Gold, on September 14. An initial selection of 36 titles will be available for this new subscription service. When Xbox Game Pass Core was first revealed in July, Microsoft confirmed that it would include online gaming and a minimum of 25 games in its portfolio.
But Microsoft seems to have gone above and beyond, deciding on a total of 36 excellent titles that will be part of the Xbox Game Pass Core collection when it launches. Thankfully, on September 14th, current Xbox Live Gold subscribers will seamlessly switch to Xbox Game Pass core, with no additional fees or changes to their monthly rates. It will continue to cost $9.99 a month or $59.99 a year for subscriptions.
What benefits does the updated Game Pass Core offer, then? Among many other well-known games, the list includes The Elder Scrolls Online, Gears 5 Game of the Year Edition, Halo 5, Fable Anniversary, Forza Horizon 4 Standard Edition, and many more. Beloved independent titles like Celeste, Limbo, Among Us, Stardew Valley, and Gang Beasts are also included.
Microsoft is committed to maintaining the excitement by updating the Game Pass Core catalog two or three times a year, according to a recent Xbox newswire. No free monthly games will be available.
Because it promises to add online multiplayer possibilities with this membership, Microsoft has done a remarkable job rebranding their lower-tier subscription, making it much more tempting. Even though almost 80% of Xbox Game Pass users are on Ultimate, because cloud gaming is Ultimate’s primary feature, it’s doubtful that this number will change. On the other hand, Game Pass Core might draw in new users who have never used a pass before.
Although Microsoft acknowledged in its CMA report a few months ago that sales had decreased by a certain proportion following the addition of the base game to Game Pass, Xbox CEO Phil Spencer has previously maintained that subscription-based services had no negative effect on game sales. The launch of the Xbox Game Pass Core model may allay Microsoft’s worries regarding dwindling sales.
Xbox has finally confirmed that, despite initial doubts, Game Pass Core would allow access to online console multiplayer. With the exception of the curation of the new games, it is effectively delivering all the benefits of Xbox Live Gold. Xbox Game Pass Core subscribers can also take advantage of exclusive member discounts, which can save you up to 50% on a number of games.
