Along with this news, a mysterious teaser that hinted at “more has yet to be unveiled” was posted on the official Mortal Kombat social media account. But the details of what is being revealed are still unknown. Is this disclosure merely another character reveal, or is it anything more?
At EVO 2023, a character demo was given to the fighting video game community, showing the return of the renowned Reptile. Fans also got to see a glimpse of Havik and Ashrah on the screen, so this wasn’t their only delight. A character announcement is most likely given this. In addition to well-known characters like LiuKang, Raiden, Scorpion, and Sub-Zero, the confirmed cast currently also includes some fascinating newcomers from famous shows like Homelander from The Boys and Omni-Man from Invincible.
Additionally, Mortal Kombat 1 includes 24 spots on its character choice screen, according to the sneak peeks. Reptile, Ashrah, and Havik joining the roster raises the following issues: How many undiscovered characters remain? And does Shang Tsung, the highly sought-after presale bonus character, fit into one of them or is he the enigmatically the 25th fighter? These thoughts leave us with five or six spots that have yet to be revealed, not to mention the four Kameo fighters who are also hiding in the shadows.

Reiko and Motaro were mentioned in recent video shown at the San Diego Comic-Con. This sparked discussions as fans speculated on the possible roles that these two might play. Is Reiko going to be a mainstay, while Motaro will still only be a Kameo? Time will only tell.
The Invasion mode, which had previously been leaked through a sneaky peek at the game’s box, was teased by NetherRealm Studios, heightening the anticipation. This setting guarantees a solo experience. Many people think that it may be similar to the Konquest mode from prior games. Could this be the big reveal Ed Boon has planned for Gamescom?
Mortal Kombat 1, which is due out on September 19, isn’t just another game in the series. It continues the story from its predecessor, Mortal Kombat 11, and serves as a relaunch. The compelling story of Kronika interfering with time travel and Liu Kang and Raiden’s subsequent attempts to repair the wrongs promises to be a potent blend of familiarity and novelty.
In addition to the Mortal Kombat 1 unveiling, Gamescom’s opening is expected to be a spectacular event. We hope to catch a glimpse of a number of much awaited projects, including Starfield, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, the Phantom Liberty expansion for Cyberpunk 2077, and Alan Wake II.
All eyes will be on Ed Boon and Mortal Kombat 1 as the curtain opens at 11:00 AM PT on August 22 in anticipation of the official disclosure of the secrets it has so tantalizingly hinted at thus far.
The question is whether Gamescom 2023 will satisfy our hunger for knowledge or leave us wanting more. We’ll discover it in due time.
