The creator of the eagerly awaited S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, GSC Game World, has encountered an enormous obstacle. One floor of its office was destroyed by a fire that was as erratic and wild as the abnormalities in its game. Luckily, it proved not to be a story of hopelessness.
According to Twitter user @HazzadorGamin and reports from Vortex, the fire destroyed one of the developer’s office levels, causing damage estimated to be worth an astounding 1.5 million crowns. Although this seems like a big amount, converting it to US dollars comes out to about $75,000, which isn’t too bad considering the circumstances.
Rumor has it that the fire danced dangerously near to the game’s backup servers. However, before you draw any hasty judgments, we’re still unsure of whether any game data was destroyed by the fire.
Here’s some encouraging news: despite the smoke, nobody was harmed. Developer GSC Game World came to Discord and said, “That’s accurate. Fortunately, the mishap did not hurt any of the workers or office personnel.” Furthermore, they stated in a tone that exudes resiliency, “No anomaly—not even a ‘Burner’—will cause us to give up on achieving our ultimate objective. We’ve handled worse situations before. This is alright.
Listen! Listen! Nothing less from this brave group of developers is what we would anticipate. Misfortunes are nothing new to GSC Game World. After Russia invaded Ukraine, a large portion of the delegation moved to Prague. Even still, a few people continued to labor in the thick of the upheaval in Ukraine, their lives completely changed by the fighting but their commitment unshakeable.
What does this entail for Heart of Chornobyl, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2? As things stand, the release date of Call of Pripyat: The Sequel is still scheduled for early 2024. Even while the fire might seem like a setback, GSC Game World isn’t one to back down if history is any guide. It has previously experienced displacement, war, and now fire. However, as repeatedly demonstrated, it rises, stronger and more determined.
Steam will release S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl on the PC and Xbox Series X/S.
