- Wizards of the Coast and YMI continue their collaboration of Dungeons & Dragons-themed program of fun activities in the classroom.
- The D&D materials are designed to encourage STEM learning, letting young learners use their imagination and creative expression.
- Titled Dungeons & Dragons: A Field Guide to Dragons, the program is intended as a tie-in to the recent TTRPG supplement The Practically Complete Guide to Dragons.
For grades 4-6 and 6-8, a brand-new collection of entertaining activities for the Dungeons & Dragons classroom learning program has been launched. The Practically Complete Guide to Dragons TTRPG, a new D&D Fifth Edition supplement, is the exact theme that these teaching tools are centered on.
The general public’s knowledge of tabletop roleplaying games has reached a record high following the release of the big-screen movie Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Even though the D&D film did not do well at the box office, more and more individuals are showing interest in playing the role-playing game that served as inspiration for it. And that extends to teachers who want to incorporate a little fantasy adventure into their lessons to liven them up.

Wands of the Coast and Young Minds Inspired (YMI) collaborated to create the Dungeons & Dragons: A Field Guide to Dragons curriculum. Two slightly different versions are available, targeted at distinct learner demographics: Grades 4–6 and Grades 6–8. The activities in particular are meant to support STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education while also motivating children to express themselves creatively and imaginatively.
A Field Guide to Dragons for the D&D/YMI school program includes activities that promote STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) study. With Dragons, though! As stated in the YMI website’s official description:
Engage your students in a quest to explore the mysterious and mythological world of dragons with activities inspired by the Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying game and its characters. Students use analytical, science, and language arts skills as they solve puzzles and describe their dragon encounters.
Everything teachers need to implement the Dungeons & Dragons system: You can locate and download a Field Guide to Dragons from YMI. The teacher’s guide, student activity sheets (that can be copied), an alignment map for educational standards, and an online feedback form are all included in the PDFs. In addition, a film is included to support the educational resources.
Although the focus of the material is the range of fictitious draconic animals found in D&D, learners are also required to engage in creative expression and active listening through the activities. For example, in the Q&A sections, students are asked to identify the distinctions between the habitats, dietary preferences, treasures that each dragon often gathers, and magical skills of each dragon.
There is a TTRPG supplement called The Practically Complete Guide to Dragons for the elder “kids” who wish to incorporate more dragon information into their game. Published in August of 2023, this book delves deeply into the specifics of dragons. These specifics include things like the size of a “colossal” dragon within a species or the contents of a Copper Dragon’s lair.
The Practically Complete Guide to Dragons supplement is available for purchase by TTRPG veterans who are older and more experienced. It’s a wise move for Wizards of the Coast to provide free educational materials to eligible institutions, especially considering the excellent publicity that D&D is receiving as a result of the popularity of Baldur’s Gate 3 by Larian Studios. Could we see something like to Paizo’s Pathfinder or R. Talsorian’s Cyberpunk 2077TTRPG?
