Overwatch 2 season six was finally released by Blizzard on August 10. The upgrade, called Invasion, immediately attracted more than 75,000 active players. Unfortunately, the bulk of them wrote unfavorable reviews, making Overwatch 2: Invasion the Steam platform’s worst-reviewed game in no time.
This was done by gamers as a protest against some recent Blizzard actions. First, the firm altered the game’s monetization plan and put several formerly free elements behind paywalls. Second, despite supporters’ high expectations, Blizzard broke its pledge to deliver a promised PvE option.
Many Overwatch 2 fans were incensed by these incidents, as well as the closure of Blizzard games in China, and they reacted by review bombing the game on Steam.
Director of Overwatch 2 Aaron Keller wrote about it in a post a few days ago. According to their “core players,” Overwatch 2 is “in the best state it’s ever been,” Keller claimed in the post.
Many people have said that it seems like we are really paying attention to their feedback, and this season is the result of that, he continued. It’s amazing to hear.
Keller acknowledged the largely negative Steam user reviews for Invasion. However, he opted to see the situation as a positive one and rejoiced the entrance of new participants into the game.
According to him, “We also debuted on Steam last week, and it’s been amazing to see tons of new players get into Overwatch 2 for the first time, even though being review-bombed isn’t a good experience. With Overwatch 2, we wanted to increase the game’s accessibility for more players than ever.

Keller acknowledged that his studio’s inability to provide the promised PvE was the main cause of the unfavorable evaluations.
We respect Keller’s willingness to confront the problem head-on rather than pretend it doesn’t exist. He didn’t offer an apology to the game’s diehard fans, as we had anticipated. We believe that by not doing so, he passed up an opportunity to reassure fans that Blizzard fully accepts responsibility for the error and that the company has their best interests at heart.
We believe Keller made a good decision by detailing the course of action. He pledged progress and improvement in the future rather than concentrating on what went wrong.
He claims that Blizzard’s long-term strategy for Overwatch is to “continually create and innovate on what is making the game great now for the players who are playing now.” This will be done by creating “more maps, heroes, game modes, missions, stories, events, cool cosmetics, and features.”
By the way, the first-person shooter game has had other issues besides the Steam review bomb. Player involvement in the game had decreased, Blizzard said in its second-quarter earnings report. Despite this, the executive producer of Overwatch 2 thinks there is no need for alarm. In this post, we talked about his opinions on the matter.
All of the major gaming platforms, including PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X and S, and PlayStation 5, offer Overwatch 2.
