Henry Cavill‘s involvement with the Netflix series came to an end with The Witcher Season 3. Although the actor has kept quiet about it, one of the directors thinks that the workload is what caused him to leave the popular TV show.
Director Marc Jobst discussed Cavill’s departure after season three in an interview with Screen Rant. The actor has suffered, in the director’s opinion, because of the series. Jobst emphasized how difficult it is for performers to perform in a show like The Witcher, especially someone like Cavill who performs his own stunts.
“Look, Henry has produced three series. These shows are difficult to produce since they are so popular. If you’re filming a close-up of a hand clutching a sword, it must be Henry’s hand. He does every single beat of his stunts. Jobst disclosed. Therefore, in order to avoid bothering your number one, you usually bring in a double, Henry will go out and shoot another scene in which he is in another location, and you get someone else into the hand. Henry won’t do it, and the outcomes are spectacular as a result. First and first, you’re dealing with a fantastic athlete who puts in serious effort in the gym both before and after a 12-hour day of shooting and who genuinely cares about his job.
Jobst added that Cavill put a lot of effort into perfecting the sword-fighting scenes in the show. In order to ensure that he could score a hit without having to cut a scene during filming, Cavill practiced one fight sequence in season one with the camera operator for four weeks, according to the director.

“That’s draining on your number one,” he continues, “so after three seasons, I feel like, ‘Okay, he’s brought the show into existence, and if he feels like he’s done what he can, I trust him.'” It’s a gift to work with his attention and drive to do things well since it inspires everyone to declare that “good enough” isn’t good enough. It has to be amazing. We all want to work that way; we all want to create fantastic things rather than just decent things.
Season 3 of The Witcher earned some of the lowest viewership ratings for the franchise on Rotten Tomatoes, so the showrunners have a lot of work to do to bring the series back. At 19% right now, the third season’s audience rating is at an all-time low for the show. Although some fans blame Cavill’s departure for the reduced ratings, others believe that the series did a bad job of adapting the original material.
According to one of the filmmakers, a strategy has already been developed to introduce Liam Hemsworth as the next Geralt of Rivia. It’s safe to conclude that season four will succeed or fail based on Hemsworth’s inclusion in the program. Whatever the showrunners come up with, let’s hope it appeals to the viewers.
