Recently, Disney revealed that its streaming service would undergo significant modifications. Users, however, have expressed dissatisfaction with the modifications and are thinking about terminating their memberships.
Over the past few years, the cost of streaming service subscriptions has been rising substantially. Disney recently announced a pricing increase for Disney+, and it appears as though this was the final straw for many consumers.
In a report by Cinema Blend, “CancelDisney Plus” has been trending on social media. Since the announcement of the price rise, usage of the phrase has increased by 510%. It is the largest global consumption increase in the previous seven months.
The price of the monthly membership for the ad-free version of Disney+ will increase from its current price of $10.99 per month to $13.99 starting in October, the company announced during its Q3 earnings call last week. The business also disclosed that the streaming platform will start cracking down on password sharing as early as next year. It is not yet clear how the platform intends to prevent password sharing.
It appears that people desire to terminate their memberships for a variety of reasons in addition to the price increase. Many users have admitted that they do not frequently use the streaming service. Given the variety of options customers have, it is not surprising that some platforms may be underutilized. Consumers may have reached the upper limit of what they may pay on streaming services as a result of the price hike.

Disney undoubtedly wishes people would choose the cheaper, ad-supported plan rather than canceling their subscriptions entirely. The bottom tier will continue to cost $7.99 a month for subscriptions, and it doesn’t appear that this will change very soon. This is a deliberate tactic to keep subscribers despite the price increase.
Users’ responses to the announced crackdown on password sharing have been unfavorable. This is reminiscent of how consumers responded to Netflix‘s recent crackdown on password-sharing. Many worry that the crackdown may raise the cost of using Disney+, even though the company hasn’t specified how it would be implemented.
Launched in November 2019, Disney+ offers users access to a vast library of Disney films, TV series, and other media. The platform’s hosting of Marvel and Star Wars material with Disney original programs is one of its primary selling factors. Along with Netflix and Amazon Prime, the streaming service is a market leader.
