- Baldur s Gate 3 will finally get full Mac support later this September, according to developer Larian Studios.
- Previously, Mac players who were on Early Access of BG3 expected the game to launch on macOS on the same date as for the Windows PC and later on the PS5 release. Disappointingly, that was not the case.
- This just leaves the Microsoft Xbox Series X/S owners waiting for official word as to when they ll finally get to join the Baldur s Gate 3 party.
With developer Larian Studios announcing support in the upcoming major patch, Mac players will now be able to participate in the Baldur’s Gate 3party.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is undoubtedly the best role-playing game that has been released in recent years, and its enormous launch success is evidence of that. However, Mac users have been limited to Early Access while Windows PC and PlayStation 5 players have been able to enjoy Larian Studios’ masterwork of translating Wizards of the Coast’s Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition rules and the Forgotten Realms campaign setting. It was previously anticipated that the Mac launch would take place in tandem with the Windows PC release in August, but that did not transpire.
But for those who would rather use macOS than Windows, the wait for Baldur’s Gate 3 might finally be over.
The news was made by Larian Studios, the developer of Baldur’s Gate 3, on their official X (formerly Twitter) account.

Even though the developer mostly confirmed the third major patch for the game across all platforms, they did mention that Patch 3 will feature “full support for BG3 on Mac.” For macOS users who have been feeling left out of the Baldur’s Gate 3 experience, this is the most significant news. Many of these fans have vented their dissatisfaction on social media sites like Reddit, the official Baldur’s Gate 3 forums on the Larian Studios website, and the Steam community.
Once Windows PC players have been exploring Baldur’s Gate 3 for more than a month, Mac users will, before September closes, transition from Early Access to Full Support.Not helping however was the fact that Larian Studios, who had been releasing patches and hotfixes for PC and PS5 users, had never before committed to a firm release date for the Mac version of Battlefield 3. Additionally, Steam Deck users could even make BG3 run, albeit with certain limitations.
Buyers of Sony Playstation 5 previously experienced something similar. While Baldur’s Gate 3 broke records for concurrent users on Steam since its August debut, PS5 owners could only stare in awe until the game’s official Playstation Store release. And on September 6, 2023, the PS5 edition of BG3 was launched on time following a sneak peek at gameplay at PAX West.
Finally, Mac users of Baldur’s Gate 3 will be able to court Karlach—or, more likely, sulk him. However, till further notice, Microsoft Xbox Series X and Series S will have to wait their turn.With the impending Patch #3, Baldur’s Gate 3 will officially receive complete support for Mac users, meaning that just one more group will have to wait their turn. The release of Battlegrounds 3 on Microsoft Xbox Series X and Series S will have to wait for the time being due to technological issues.
