Horror-themed video game enthusiasts are giddy with excitement for Little Nightmares 3, the third entry in the Little Nightmares series. One of the most talked-about details of the new game is its lack of local cooperative play, which was one of the most notable disclosures from the just finished Gamescom 2023.
Although the game will allow online multiplayer, fans have taken issue with the lack of couch co-op, which is something that the game’s director, Wayne Garland, has decided to rectify. Garland gave a justification for the contentious choice in an interview with GamesRadar, stating:
We’ve been asked questions about online versus couch co-op. Couch is something that we considered, but again, when you come back to the atmosphere and the immersion that we’re trying to elicit through Little Nightmares, I think it was important for us that we stuck to our online co-op only rather than traditional more party aspects.
2017 saw the debut of the puzzle-platform horror series, which was skillfully developed by Swedish company Tarsier Studios. The struggle for survival, childhood anxieties, and captivity are some of the themes explored in the dark franchise.
Every game adds to the world’s mythology by giving players tidbits of The Maw’s unsettling mysteries and gloomy past. Little Nightmares has become known as one of the greatest horror game series thanks to its distinctive fusion of stealth, platforming, and psychological horror components.
Supermassive Games, a British developer, will now be able to take the lead on the third installment thanks to the work done by Tarsier Studios. The studio previously worked on Little Nightmares II: Enhanced Edition, which was released for the Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. The studio is most recognized for its work on horror titles including Until Dawn, The Dark Pictures Anthology, and The Quarry.
Given Supermassive Games’ previous experience with Little Nightmares, many fans of the series are still optimistic that the company can produce a game worthy of the name, even in the face of mixed reactions to some of the changes and decisions surrounding Little Nightmares 3.
Little Nightmares 3’s introduction trailer unveiled two new characters, Low and Alone, offering players new challenges and a greater comprehension of the eerie world the series depicts while also hinting at a move into new mysteries and even worse horrors.
Little Nightmares 3 is set to make its debut on PS4, PS5,Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S,Nintendo Switch, and PC viaSteam, all slated for a release in the upcoming year.
