This week has been difficult for Apple’s Weather app, with many outages lasting more than 12 hours apiece. Here are a couple of our top weather apps for iPhone and iPad if you’re searching for a more dependable substitute.
Apple Weather App: A Good but Unreliable App?
Many of the Dark Sky features have been included in the default Weather app on iPhone (and now iPad and Mac) since Apple purchased Dark Sky in 2020. These improvements have made Apple’s first-party Weather app more robust, practical, and feature-rich.
The Weather app has a modular design that changes dynamically according to the local weather conditions. In-depth maps are also available for temperature and precipitation. Apple has also updated its Weather app to include real-time notifications, much like Dark Sky.
As a result, you will be able to receive hyper-local notifications regarding the arrival and departure times of any precipitation in your area.
With many of these same features, the Weather app is now accessible on iPad and Mac thanks to software improvements from this year. Regretfully, the app hasn’t been trustworthy, especially in the past week.
1. Carrot Weather
Carrot Weather offers far more features than just the typical weather app. You may see long-term forecast data, comprehensive maps for various types of data, and much more with this fully adjustable app layout.
Carrot Weather’s array of Lock Screen and Home Screen widgets is one of my favorite features. There are countless choices available, including the ability to have the widget designs altered in response to changes in the weather and forecasts. Deep integration is also available with Live Activities on the iPhone 14 Pro’s Dynamic Island and Lock Screen.
Carrot Weather is renowned for its acidic nature, adding a whimsical touch to current events and forecasts. If, however, that doesn’t pique your attention, you may turn it off and continue to receive bland, lifeless descriptions.
Carrot Weather is available for download on the App Store. Carrot Weather can probably take the place of Dark Sky very easily if you’re looking for an alternative and don’t think the Apple Weather app’s built-in features are strong enough.

AccuWeather
There’s a reason AccuWeather is frequently at the top of App Store charts; it’s a household name in the weather sector. With its many features, including real-time notifications, comprehensive forecasting data, and design customization choices, the AccuWeather app provides an amazing experience on both iPhone and iPad.
The AccuWeather app’s sophisticated weather radar tools are among its most helpful features. With these, you may see radar images of longer-term data for storm surges, sustained winds, rainfall, and even water vapor. Additional AccuWeather features are as follows:

- Local Weather – including severe weather alerts, temperature, precipitation, and allergy outlooks for your day

3. Weather Strip
A software with a distinct twist for the iPhone, iPad, and Mac is called Weather Strip. With its week-long hourly view that “shows you the whole forecast at a glance, so you can more quickly choose the best times to go outside,” the app is well-known for this feature.
Based on this information, the software also provides really helpful Lock Screen and Home Screen widgets.
